How to Change Dial-up information for RICA customers

Changing configuration on Dial-Up networking, Outlook Express, Explorer & Netscape

Rockingham Internet (RICA) has announced its intention to change the dial up phone number for the Harrisonburg area. This change will allow it to provide better service and less busy signals!

The following article contains infomation to help you change your configuration. If you have problems or would like assistance reconfiguing your system please call us at 867-5282 (office) or 867-5463 (Brenda's home).

DIAL-UP Networking

To create a new Dial-Up Connection

1. Click on Start Menu.
2. Select Programs >> Accessories >>Communications >> Dial-Up Networking
3. Double-click "Make New Connection"
4. Type newconnection name "RICAnew"
5. Click "Next"
6. Type new number 540-437-7422
7. Click "Next"
8. Click "Finish"

OutLook Express

Don't panic. It is not as hard as it looks!

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Select "Tools" from the Menu Bar.
3. In the tools menu select "Accounts"
4. Click the "Add" button and select the "Mail" option
5. The Internet Connection Wizard will start. Follow along and fill in the following blanks:

  • your name
  • your email account (ie. bearly@rica.net)
  • your incoming mail server is a POP3
  • your POP3 server name is "rica.net"
  • your outgoing mail server is "relay.rica.net
  • your username (ie. bearly)
  • your password
  • a new name for this connection -- use rica.new
  • select "connect using my phone line"
  • Finish the Wizard and close

6. Repeat steps 1-3 and select "rica.new" from the list.
7. Click "properties"
8. Click the "connection" tab Verify that "connect using phone" is selected.
9. Selet Rica.new from the drop down menu.
10. Click "apply"

The changes will take effect after you close Outlook Express and restart.

Explorer

Netscape

Netscape does not currently use an internal dialer, so if you have configured your Dial-Up networking connection you should be done. Just establish your connection and then open Netscape.
